Unfortunately, lead generation is often tedious and slow going – which means you don’t always see immediate results. This can be frustrating, and can even squelch the fire that drives entrepreneurs.
Lead generation needs to be two things: efficient and effective. Time is important and valuable, and spending hours and hours procuring new leads takes away from the time you could be using to fine tune your business.
Depending on the type of business (and type of customer), generating leads can happen in different ways. The tactics are numerous, but common approaches may include collecting email addresses in exchange for a free report or whitepaper, using a signup sheet at a trade show, prompting people to contact you through a video, driving people to a landing page via social media… And on and on.
Every business is going to be a little bit different, and it can take a fair amount of experimentation and careful testing to develop the right method(s) for you. Gathering leads and creating brand awareness is one of the most important goals of marketing of all kinds.
Whatever methods you use, the point is to get people interested in your products and services – or at the very least, gather contact information so you can continue to provide value, education, and information about how your company provides the exact solution they need.
